My last wedding of 2011 took place at the fabulous Tewinbury Farm on a very pleasant day in December. The photography at Tewinbury Farm is always rewarding as there are many places to capture something a little different, and the light for the time of year was exceptional.

Sally and James looked great on the day and were really up for the photography, even making me have pictures with one of their guests in a look-a-likee competition.

With only a few weeks to go, Helen popped into the studio for a mother and bump shoot. She looked radiant and is eagerly awaiting baby number two to go with her little boy, Oliver, who I photographed a couple of years ago. All things going smoothly we have earmarked some time for a newborn portrait shoot in February. I wonder if Oliver will have a new baby sister or brother? I guess all will be revealed in a few weeks time.

Wedding at the Reid Rooms-Essex wedding photography | Johanna and Nicholas

On a chilly winter morning I could be found making my way to The Reid Rooms in deepest darkest Essex for the very Christmassy wedding of Johanna and Nick. A clear sky and a nip in the air were all good omens for a bright, crisp winter event with the potential of decent light till at least 3.30pm.

I was not disappointed either! Although cold by most standards Johanna and Nick gritted their teeth and got on with the picture taking, not complaining once. In fact I think I shivered more than they did, even with all the flying around that I tend to do. There was a distinct vintage feel to some of the events....from big red balloons, old fashioned sweetie stall and even a change of dress for Johanna later in the evening to something that paid homage to the 50's.

This was my first visit in years to shoot some wedding photography at The Reid Rooms and I enjoyed it immensely. You two were stars on the day and I hope you enjoy this little selection of images. Wow! Has it really been that long since I have posted? I really should get my act together and get serious with my blogging. I apologise and will endeavour to do better!

Anyway, back to now, and I must post a few images from Charlotte and James's pre-wedding shoot. Their wedding day is coming up in August and after this little session I am looking forward to it even more. Especially as James thoroughly enjoyed it (and little Pepper). That is the pooch...not Charlottes nickname:-)

We took the images in a quaint little field local to me and then an underpass a stones throw away. Loving the light when I shot these....slightly overcast with hazy sun. Perfect! Enjoy these handful of images and feel free to leave any comments in the box below the post. Cheers, Phil.

A quick preview of a recent newborn baby photo-shoot. Little baby Freddie (well not so little at 9lbs +) was a joy to shoot....eventually! Here he is at two and a half weeks on a hastily rescheduled shoot. Freddie just wasn't interested in going to sleep and was curious to everything going on around him. It took a while and a few cuddles but mum (Charlie) was finally able to send him to the land of nod. Who said newborn baby photography was easy :-)

What a little beauty Tobias is. Ten days old and as cute as anything!

Baby Tobias is the gorgeous first son of Stacy and Andrew, whose wedding I photographed last year at the fabulous Hockwold House near Thetford. He was very well behaved......up to the point where he decided it would be amusing to wee on dad :-)

Tobias ended up being quite the little poser though and gave us the chance to shoot a little variety. It seemed such a shame to remove him from the cacoon at the end of the session, as he looked so snug.

I was prompted to make this post after an appeal by a photographer colleague of mine who wanted to be inspired to shoot cooler detail shots on his weddings.

We are both members of a exclusive forum for UK wedding and portrait photographers called MV. This is an invite only forum and I have been a member for a couple of years now. I have to say, there are some fantastic photographers that grace this forum. Photographers that are leading lights in the UK today and on a larger scale more than hold their own when put along side our American cousins. I am quite proud to have been first nominated, and then invited to be part of this select group of likeminded professionals. To share your views and your work within this forum can feel very liberating at times.

Anyway, in answer to his previously mentioned appeal, I posted a few of my favourite detail images that I had shot over my 2010 wedding season. So rather than leaving them hidden within the MV forum, I thought that I would share a few here!

I think it is great to shoot quality detail images as they are the little reminders of things that can so easily be forgotten on the day, and they always look stunning in the wedding album! I always strive to make them a little different. So much so that I give myself a little project of coming up with unusal ring shots every wedding. A little bit of fun, but I find that it also focuses the mind too.

Hertfordshire baby photographer | Newborn baby shoot

These are from a recent newborn shoot that I thought I would share! He is 3 weeks old, which is borderline for this style as newborns tend to get disturbed a little easier after a couple of weeks. The absolute best time for newborn baby photography is anywhere from the first couple of days to about a week or so. We just about got away with this one as he was very content and was quite happy to snuggle into the little cacoon. In fact dad thought that he looked so cosy that he wanted an adult size cacoon for himself :-)

I just love this first shot as it is totally the style that I like to do. The second one is a bit cutesy though!

Big yawn time! I love his little toes poking through the bottom of the cacoon.

Wow! Where did the last twelve months go?

Here we are, halfway through January and we already have the Fanhams Hall Winter Wedding Show behind us. It was great to meet the many brides that took time out to attend, and even say hi to the couples that have already booked us for this year! There seems to be a lot of interest in Winter weddings for 2011/12. Many couples that we were able to have a chat with are looking forward to the end of the year with their Christmas and Winter themed weddings.

Upcoming wedding shows that we are looking forward to are Hatfield House on January 30th and one of our favourites, the big Tewin Bury Farm Hotel Wedding extravaganza, which will be taking place on 20th March. This is a superb show and I love the fact that our stand always looks fantastic with the space that is provided. We are recommended wedding photographers at Tewin Bury Farm Hotel and always enjoy working at this special venue.

On a personal front, I am thoroughly looking forward to shooting the weddings and portraits that are booked for 2011, and with the introduction of some great new albums, display products I am sure that our clients are thrilled too!

Anyway, enough waffle!

Norfolk wedding photography | Stacy and Andrew

Finally I am able to get back to blogging some outstanding weddings.

Here we have some images from Stacy and Andrew's big day at St James Church in Hockwold, near Thetford in Norfolk. Another great couple that were great fun to work with. Andrew especially had some great faces throughout the day!

I fell in love with their reception venue, which was a privately owned house with this being their first ever wedding. Stacy grew up in the village of Hockwold and it had always been her dream to use this house in some way on her wedding day. Well dreams can come true and after a chat with her father, the owner of Hockwold Hall duly obliged.

I met the owner and he was almost as proud as the brides father to be having this first ever wedding on his beautiful land.

Anyway, without further ado, here are some images from the day. Look out for some rockin PHOTOBOOTH shots. These guys were up for a party!

Hertfordshire wedding photography | Hayley and James

I have been meaning to post a few images from Hayley and James's wedding that was shot a little while ago. It had sort of slipped through the net (I'll blame the fact that I was snowed under-sorry). I love these images and may well pick a couple to enter in an upcoming competition.

They were married at the quaint little church of St Mary's in Stevenage, followed by a marquee reception a couple of miles away in the quiet village of Walkern. St. Mary's is the very church where I cut my teeth on my first full wedding, all of 27 years ago. I photographed Hayley's stepfather's (and an old school pal) wedding there in those early days so this makes me feel really old. I have also made a promise that if I ever end up photographing a third generation wedding day from their family, that I would do so free of charge. You heard it here first and you now have it in writing! :-)

Hayley is a fun girl and totally on my wavelength when it comes to her sense of humour....well, she laughed uncontrollably at my jokes so that was a good start! James was more cool, thoughtful and reserved, but was up for trailing across the fields to get that killer image. So to you both, I thank you for not only seeing the images that I had inside my head and going with the flow, but for putting up with my lame attempts at witty banter and an endless stream of schoolday anecdotes with Gavin (stepfather/school chum).

How Cute is She?

This is baby Isabella Jasmine, new daughter to Nicola and Michael and sister to little Leon. She is a gorgeous little sleepy head, and at sixteen days old was just on the cusp of being able to get these shots.

I photographed Nicola and Michael's wedding day at the fabulous Sculpture Gallery at Woburn Abbey a couple of years or so ago and now have had the pleasure of photographing both of their newborns. I love this part of the job, where you see two young people grow from a 'family' of two into three, then four and maybe.......? :-)

Claire + Chris | Wedding at Coltsfoot Country Retreat - Datchworth

Wow! It Has been sooo long since I posted anything. What a busy summer it has been, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. I have so many weddings and portraits to blog I really do not know where to begin! In future I promise, promise to try and keep up to date with posting on my blog. I hope I am forgiven :-)

Anyway....back to the present!

Here are a few images from Claire and Chris's wedding at the quaint and very picturesque Coltsfoot Country Retreat, that can be found just outside the small village of Datchworth, in Hertfordshire. I say wedding at Coltsfoot, but they did have a church ceremony at St John's in High Cross first, followed by a reception at Coltsfoot. Get it right Phil!

Claire was a picture of calmness when I arrived for her prep shots. The hair and make-up were all running on time, which was great, and she looked absolutely stunning when she put on her gown. Chris looked very dapper when I met him at the church and he too seemed very together.

Great couple, great venue and great wedding. It was a pleasure to work with you guys and I hope you like your pictures. I am very happy. So much so that I have added quite a few images to this post.....so enjoy!

London and Essex MPA Photographer of the Year 2010

I am very pleased to announce that I have been voted London and Essex Photographer of the Year 2010 by the MPA (Master Photographers Association).

This is the first (and hopefully not the last) time that I have entered these prestigious awards, so to gain the top prize was not only a surprise, but very welcome indeed. This is the first time that I have entered any awards in a few years, so it is satisfying to know that I can still compete at the highest levels. Another aspect of the win is that it was in a category that I am not really used to entering; Pictorial and fine art. It won this category and was voted the overall strongest image from all that were entered, giving me the title London and Essex Photographer of the Year. I like the sound of that, although my wife is bored of me saying it already :-)

I was also lucky enough to pick up two further awards in the wedding category from the eight that I was allowed to enter in total. All in all, it was a positive and enjoyable evening spent with some fellow wedding and portrait photographers and friends.My Good buddy and fellow photographer Mark Ashworth came a close runner-up in the same category as myself. I am sure he will get his revenge next year.

Whats in a Name?

Unfortunately quite a lot at the moment if you are my friend and fellow photographer David Calvert.

David has just discovered this in light of the recent stories run in the daily papers suggesting that Jon Venables (who was convicted of murdering Jamie Bulger) was going by the name of David Calvert. Since then David’s photography site has had over 50,000 hits. Normally we’d be thrilled that his site is so popular, but at the moment he is obviously very concerned.

As his colleagues we are doing all we can to help David disassociate himself from this dreadful story. He is in no way related to David Calvert of Fleetwood, who has also been highlighted in the press and is in no way connected to the tragic case of Jamie Bulger.

David, 46, is a national award winning photographer and his business David Calvert Photography, based in Hertfordshire, specialises in family and child portraiture. David has our complete support in these difficult circumstances and we hope very much that they pass without impact to him, his own family or his business.

Happy New Year to you all from everyone here at Phil Lynch Photographer!

Back to business after a long Christmas break that was thoroughly enjoyable. I am really looking forward to these early months of 2010 as we are aiming to revamp many parts of the business from new products to marketing and branding. It is going to be pretty busy over the next few weeks, especially with some of the upcoming wedding shows that we are due to exhibit at. More about that later....!

Before Christmas I had the pleasure of photographing Claire and James's wedding at the quaint and private Priory Barns, which can be found in Little Wymondley, Hertfordshire.The weather was bright for most of the day and helped to give some great light for the photography. Great fun to see Claire arrive in an original classic Mustang that was finished in a bright orange/red.

A very long day for me on this one, especially as they added the photobooth to their coverage, but I do believe that I have ended up with some of the best booth shots that I have done. With the added paazang of some cool processing too!

Darker side of the moon!

I bought myself (and the boys) a telescope as we have all shown an interest in the sky at night recently. It is great fun and even more so now that I have added an attachment to fix my Canon 1DSII to it.

This was shot with a Canon 5D by hand holding it up to the telescopes eyepiece (I did not have the camera attachment at this point). Amazing what you can get really, and this is with the smallest optic. I will post some more when it is not so cold and there are clear skies!

We had a great morning making and then sailing paper boats down at a little stream near Tewinbury Farm. Nathan and Jamie were both into sailing their ships, for a while at least. Untill they decided it would be great fun to drop bouncing bombs on them, or in this instance, rocks!

This is a beautiful little location and I will be shooting some of my portraits here in the future.

Here is a quick update of Samuels progress so far with a couple of new studio images. The little wonder is putting on the weight and coming along fine. He is also a pretty good little sleeper as you can tell from the first image. I am a wee bit biased, but he does take a great portrait!

I picked these hats up from a really helpful lady in the States that hand makes them to order. I am getting quite a collection now, especially for newborns. I can't wait to show off a few more.

Alana and Paul | Fanham's Hall, Ware

Alana and Paul did things a little different by marrying in Vegas! Thus combining the wedding and honeymoon in one, and then having a cool party back in the UK at Hertforshire's own, Fanham's Hall.

The champagne and canapes were flowing as the guests arrived and we took this opportunity to spend twenty minutes or so in the fabulous gardens to shoot a few images. CAROLINE AND DANIEL | Woodlands Manor, Bedford

I have certainly had my share of great looking couples this year, and to keep that trend going we have Caroline and Daniel!

You can see some great pre-wedding images from this happy couple earlier in my blog, and they have continued to sparkle through to their wedding day. It is hard to believe that the shots with the long grasses were taken right next to a roundabout and a fairly busy road. Just shows what you can get away with, if you know where to look!

Katie and Duncan | Notley Abbey, Aylesbury

Sorry folks, I am way behind on blogging. It is silly season as far as weddings go but there is light at the end of the tunnel!

Katie and Duncan were married at the beautiful Notley Abbey just outside Aylesbury. It is the former home of Laurence Olivier and the gorgeous screen icon, Vivien Leigh. Also home (apparently) to some outrageous 'Hollywood' style parties over the years, with guest lists that included Marilyn Monroe, David Niven, Tony Curtis and the like. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall at one of those do's!

Superb weather, great couple and fantastic light! What more could I ask for. Here is a little taster of just a few of the images shot on the day. I hope you like.

Samuel Michael Morgan Joins the Lynch clan

At 8.17am on Wednesday 30th July 2009, Samuel Michael Morgan Lynch came quietly into the world. Weighing 8lbs he becomes the heaviest newborn of the three boys my wife has now produced (Produced-why do I make that sound like some sort of magic trick?).

So that makes three boys. Wow! He now joins Nathan (6yrs) and Jamie (almost 5yrs) in our quest to form a 5-aside football team. Only kidding!

Here is a shot taken whilst he is only a few hours old, and I will add that he is the image of his older brother.

This is Samuel at two weeks! I have gone for something a little more 'arty' here.

Not sure which I prefer so here is the original colour version too.

ALLISON AND KAT | University Arms Hotel, Cambs and Longstowe Hall

Allison and Kat had a two day spectacular for their big day(s). Day one was a traditional Hindu ceremony at The University Arms Hotel in Cambridge. This was my first Hindu ceremony and was a real eye-opener. Very noisy, very colourful and great fun. The ceremony was followed by some fabulous indian food.

Day two was a church ceremony followed by a lavish reception and party at Longstowe Hall, Nr Royston. I love this venue! Turn a full 360 degrees and there is not only a 'Kodak moment' every where you gaze, but beatifully manicured gardens, lakes, wild grassy walks and even sheep grazing as the sun sets. One of my favorite venues at the moment.

I have been looking forward to photographing Laura and Paul's big day for a while and it did not disappoint. Laura was made to wear a big white gown and be the center of attention. Louise and Joseph | Moor Park

Sorry folks, running a couple of weeks behind, but finally had a chance to blog the fantastic wedding of Louise and Joseph. The ceremony was at St Albans Catholic Church in North Finchley, and then onto the stunning Moor Park, Rickmansworth.

This was a long day and I was just about flagging when I finally packed the photobooth up at around 10.30pm. Everyone had a great time and as a first visit to Moor Park for me I would gladly add it to the list of venues that I can't wait to work at again. Enjoy!

Sunday saw me shooting the pre-wedding images of the gorgeous Elaine and camera shy other half, Dean. In fact Dean was pretty cool in front of the lens and was a great help ferrying Elaine through the stinging nettles to reach the location of the shoot. These two are going to look fantastic on their wedding day. A photographers dream.

This weekend I shot a gorgeous head and shoulders portrait of my son, Jamie.

Using great window light from the side has helped make this a very appealing image and the use of textures has given it a soft timeless feel.

This was shot in the Japanese summer house in the grounds of Fanham's Hall, Ware. A fantastic location in the heart of Hertfordshire.
